Here is a testimonial from one of our parents about this experience being involved in the league as a volunteer.
J.Coonrod - Parent & Board Member
I volunteer for A League of their own Tampa and help as coach, catcher, or fill in where needed. I have been on the board of the league for 3 years building something with them for not only my son but other community parents. I am the parent to my son Justin a 25 year old KiDult that has Autism and Sensory Processing Dysfunction.
I started as a coach of a team for 2 seasons due to need but when we expanded I moved to assist a new coach of a new team. It has been the most fun I haveever had in my life. I stated this all the time, special needs people see the world in which i wish I could see it. They see it in the way that is simply color. Most of us go through life seeing it in either black, white, or grey. The KiDults we work with see life for the joy that it can bring and being a volunteer I get to see it first hand.
I get to witness a person playing a game for the simple joy of the game. They make every Saturday during the season of fun! They laugh, smile, and cheer each other on, and no one cares about the scorethey just want to play. One of the many privileges I get from being a volunteer is I get to interact with these individuals, who make me smile. I am bombarded at times in my life with the day to day grind of a job and responsibilities. When I am out volunteering for 3 hours I get to put that grind of every day responsibilities away for awhile. I love mentoring, being a friend and dad to my son, and helping all the other parents enjoy this time too.
